Aging Gracefully Was Never About Having It Together

Hello Reader,

Most mornings, my body speaks up before I do. A stiff knee, a shoulder with opinions, a small reminder that I’m 71 and counting. For a long time I treated those mornings as something to manage. Lately I’ve treated them as something to answer, with a quiet promise that I am worthy, I am loved, and this naturally aging body is exactly what it’s supposed to be.

This week’s post is about aging gracefully, but not the serene, composed version we were all handed. It’s about what grace looks like on the harder days: when your body changes its mind, when the circle around you grows smaller, when the calendar empties out, and when you go hunting for your phone while you’re talking on it.

I wrote about losing a close friend, about the way my faith steadies me, and about why I’ve come to believe grace is less about never faltering and more about recovering well.

If you’re carrying a hard season quietly right now, I hope this one feels like a friend’s voice across the kitchen table.

Are you searching for your next cozy read? I'm offering a free promotion of book 1 in two new series offered by my brand, Healthy Life Path. Download the eBook for free on Amazon, from October 23 through October 25.

And, a positive review on Amazon is always appreciated!

The Amberline Files

Frankie Novak spent thirty-six years on a poison-control phone line, telling strangers in the worst moment of their lives exactly what to do next. Now retired, she lives at the Amberline, a grand old 1920s Chicago hotel turned independent apartments for older adults, where most of her neighbors think of her as the quiet woman in 4C who used to work in an office somewhere.

Then a death in the building is ruled an accident, and Frankie sees what everyone else misses. With an elevator mechanic who has read old buildings for forty-five years, a retired lawyer with no patience for nonsense, and a ballroom instructor who knows everyone’s secrets, she sets out to find the truth, and the building comes to call them the Amberline Four.

Each book is a complete, clean cozy mystery with a fair-play solution, no graphic violence, and no profanity. Underneath runs a story that grows from book to book: friendships that become family, a late-life romance that takes its time, a daughter learning to trust her mother’s judgment, and an old case Frankie has carried alone for thirty-six years.

The Copper Landing Novels

When a former TV antiques host trades her career and a broken marriage for a run-down shop in a sleepy Ohio river town, she’s hoping for a quiet fresh start. Instead, she finds a gruff widower from the salvage yard, century-old secrets hidden under her floorboards, and a community that just might restore her heart and her faith.

Set in the charming town of Copper Landing, this clean Christian romance series celebrates second chances in midlife and beyond. Each book brings new seasons, beloved neighbors, and heartfelt stories of faith, forgiveness, and finding love when you least expect it. Come for the romance and stay for the town, where broken things are lovingly salvaged and it’s never too late to begin again.

Hi Reader, There's a moment every fall when the air finally turns crisp, and the first thing I want is a sweater. The soft, familiar kind that feels like a hug from an old friend. This year, that cozy feeling led me somewhere I didn't expect to go: skirts. I'll be honest. Skirts have never really been my thing. I've been loyal to my pants for most of my life, the way some of us are loyal to our hairdresser. But the more I looked at skirt and sweater outfits this season, the more I understood...

Hi Reader, I used to think healthy aging meant adding more to my plate. More rules, more routines, more things to remember before I'd even had my coffee. It took me a while to realize the habits that actually stuck were the quiet ones, the ones I barely had to think about anymore. This week's post walks through the handful that have earned a permanent place in my life, from how I move my body to the one habit nobody ever puts on these lists. If you've been easing into October self-care the...

Hello Reader, A friend took a candid photo of me last spring, one of those didn't-know-she-was-snapping-it shots. I caught myself in it a few days later, scrolling through my phone, and had this strange half-second where I almost didn't recognize the woman looking back. Not because she looked bad. Because my first instinct, embarrassingly, was to wonder if she looked frumpy. That word has a way of sneaking up on us, doesn't it? It's not really about age. It's this quiet worry that somewhere...
